Light therapy uses infrared rays to stimulate blood circulation. This relaxes the muscles, tendons and joints and gets rid of lactic acid in the muscles, allowing the horse to recover faster, for example.

How does light therapy work?
Riislund Light Therapy products have up to 3 light types:
- Red light (660 nanometers): enters the tissue at a depth that helps the body promote the wound healing process and triggers cell energies.
- Infrared light (850 nanometers) is not visible to the eye. Infrared goes deep into the body and helps reduce pain in the body’s muscles, tendons and joints. This allows blood circulation and the healing process to start.
- Blue light (470 nanometers) is very effective against mud fever and wound treatment due to its bactericidal and anti-inflammatory properties.
Riislund Light Therapy products use combined light (660 nanometer red light + 850 nanometer infrared light + 470 nanometer blue light), which means that you get a better treatment of the area where you use the product.
Whichever way you choose to use light therapy, you, your horse and your dog will experience improvement in many ways.

The difference between the BLUE and RED model
The BLUE model:
- Has three lights: blue light, red light and infrared light (infrared light cannot be seen with the naked eye).
- Suitable for skin problems, wound healing, mold and fungus.
The RED model:
- Has two lights: red light and infrared light.
- Penetrates deep into muscles, tendons and joints.
What can the BLUE model do that RED can't?
- Blue light works primarily on the epidermis and can help with skin problems such as mold, fungus and promote wound healing.
- Red and infrared light goes deeper into the body and affects muscles, tendons and joints.
- If the focus is primarily skin issues, the BLUE model is recommended.
Why choose the RED model?
- If there are no skin issues (such as mold, fungus or wounds), the blue light is not necessary.
- The RED model provides effective in-depth treatment of muscles, tendons and joints.
- Recommended for all common wellness and muscle/joint needs in humans, dogs and horses.
Processing time for horses
- Treatment time: After 7-9 minutes, cells do not absorb any more light; after this time the product can be removed. Treatment can be continued for longer for well-being and relaxation.
- For tendon injuries on legs: Only 3-5 minutes on the affected area.
Treatment of dogs
- Almost always the RED model.
- The BLUE model is only used for extensive skin problems.

Treatment of humans
- Always the RED model, as the need for blue light is rare.

Deluxe models
- The Deluxe is identical to the RED model and can therefore be used for dogs, horses and humans.
While Light Therapy RED is perfect for targeted areas such as the back, legs and neck, the Deluxe mat provides full-body light therapy, making it ideal before training or on rest days.
